WELCOME TO THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF PENNSYLVANIA-PHILADELPHIA
2012 STAIR CLIMB
* Registration will begin at 8am on July 2nd.

The Philly Stair Climb is a fundraising event that challenges an individual or group to
climb 53 floors in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Pennsylvania Philadelphia  (SOPH). Climb participants will set a fundraising goal and get pledges from family, friends and colleagues for their commitment to “Climb their Hearts Out” for SOPH’s T.E.A.M. Philly
athletes at the BNY Mellon Center in Downtown Philadelphia! The 2nd Annual Stair Climb
will raise funds for athletes to take part in trainings; local and state competitions; seasonal
tournaments; and medical screenings through Special Olympics Healthy Athletes initiative.


To provide the most enjoyable, beneficial, and challenging activities for Special Olympics athletes, Special Olympics operates in accordance
with the following principles:


• To help bring all persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger 
community under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given a chance
to become productive citizens. 


• To encourage athletes to participate in other school or community sports programs, whenever it is in the interests of the individual athletes.

• To ensure that all Special Olympics activities reflect the values, standards, traditions, and ceremonies embodied in the modern Olympics movement.

 • To make year-round sports training available to every Special Olympics athlete, conducted by well-qualified coaches in accordance with the standardized
Sports Rules formulated and adopted by Special Olympics.


• To ensure that the Special Olympics program includes sports training and activities that are appropriate to the age and ability level of each athlete.

• To organize, to the greatest extent possible, all Special Olympics activities to involve local volunteers, from school age to senior citizens, in order to create 
opportunities for improved understand of intellectual disabilities.

• To offer athletes, in addition to the primary mission of sports training, activities to include a full range of artistic, social, and cultural experiences.

• To ensure that the Spirit of Special Olympics incorpates universal values that ranscend all boundaries of geography, nationality, political philosophy,
gender, age, race, and religion
